<p>Mountains are elevated natural jewels that cover 12% of the planet's surface and approximately 23% of Mexico's territory. These sites provide several ecosystem goods and services fundamental for human communities everywhere. Thus, one of the great services they provide is water; the main rivers of the planet are born in the mountains, and between 60 and 80% of the freshwater supply depends on them. <br>Mountains are also sites with beautiful landscapes that give way to many religious and cultural traditions and provide recreation, sports, and enjoyment opportunities. They can also be key sites for biodiversity, agroecological development, and local knowledge.</p>
