Abstract
In this paper we present spectroscopic and electrochemical studies of the chemical reaction between the salt Cu(NO3)2 2.5 H2O and the boron compound, monomercaptoundecahydro-closo-dodecaborate, [B12H11SH]2- in methanol. When the two substances were mixed a chemical reduction from Cu(II) to Cu(I) and an oxidation of the compound [B12H11SH]2- to [B12H11SSB12H11]4- were detected. The results obtained here may be useful in establishing a methodology to study the interaction of other metals with the compound [B12H11SH]2- in different solvents.
