Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • El envío no ha sido publicado previamente ni se ha sometido a consideración por ninguna otra revista (o se ha proporcionado una explicación al respecto en los Comentarios al editor/a).
  • El archivo de envío está en formato OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF o WordPerfect.
  • Siempre que sea posible, se proporcionan direcciones URL para las referencias.
  • El texto tiene interlineado sencillo; 12 puntos de tamaño de fuente; se utiliza cursiva en lugar de subrayado (excepto en las direcciones URL); y todas las ilustraciones, figuras y tablas se encuentran colocadas en los lugares del texto apropiados, en vez de al final.
  • El texto se adhiere a los requisitos estilísticos y bibliográficos resumidos en las Directrices del autor/a, que aparecen en Acerca de la revista.

Author Guidelines

Instructions for submitting authors

1          Manuscripts submitted to Estudios Latinoamericanos journal must be the result of a high-level academic research on Latin American topics (or issues pertaining to the region).  Moreover, documents should be original.  While papers are being revised –in any case, until they are published—, the author or authors must pledge not to submit a copy to other editorials for publication.

2.         Submitting a manuscript to our Journal means to accept our current editorial guidelines and authorizes the Editorial Committee at Estudios Latinoamericanos to promote the article in our printed Journal, online, re-printing pages, compilations, and any form of database or electronic/printed index system to have greater and better promotional impact.

3.         Manuscripts must be submitted to the following electronic address: estudioslatinoamericanos@politicas.unam.mx

4.         Submissions ought to include a brief curricular card of the author/authors´ information: given and last names, profession, academic level, institution, research area, most important publications, address, telephone and electronic mail.

5.         Must attach an abstract of no more than 10 lines in Spanish and English, including Key Words.

6.         A far as style, the articles ought to have an appropriate level of writing with no typing errors: a maximum of 25 pages (double spaced), including maps, graphs, tables, etc.  It should include subtitles, and must use Times New Roman font and 12-point font size.

7.         Tables and graphs should be sent in excel format.  Maps, pictures or any other visual information must be submitted in JPG or bmp format.  The title and specific references or citations must be attached outside the table, map, graph, image, etc.

8.         Use footnotes for additional information (usually to explain in more detail), and all bibliographic references must be cited in the text using American style documentation format (Harvard).  That is, author’s last name, year, followed by a colon with no space, and page number; all inside parentheses.  For instance: (Garcia, 2000:31), or (Garcia Lopez, 2004:32-45).  If a footnote requires bibliographic information, it should be cited in the same documentation style.

9.         The bibliography must be included at the end of the article.  Information must be followed by comas, and we ask to follow the next order and format: Author’s last name (s), Author’s given name(s), year in parentheses, title of article (use quotation marks if article comes from a journal or is part of a compiled work), italicize periodical or book titles, then add location and publisher.

Example of an article in a compiled work:

OLIVER, Lucio (2009), “Conflicts and tensions on the expanded State in Latin America. FAVELA, (editors), Latin America: rights and citizenship practices in light of people’s movements, Buenos Aires, CLACSO.

For periodicals, include: num., vol., months, after Publisher

FALETTO, Enzo (1991), “What happened with Gramsci”, in Nueva Sociedad, Caracas, FLACSO, num. 115, September-October.

Citing electronic sources: Author’s last name, author’s name (lower/uppercase letters), title of article (italics and lower/uppercase letters), if the article comes from a journal or an electronic periodical, it should be in normal letter font, inside quotation marks, media type (online, CD-ROM, magnetic tape, diskette); this information should be inside brackets ([ ]), if the source is related to an electronic mail, the information must go inside angle brackets (< >), title of periodical (if that is the case), volume or/and edition number of periodical (if that is the case), number of pages of article, location of publication, editor.

If a source lacks all needed information, it could still be useful.  For instance, when it doesn’t include the author’s or the editor’s name, or does not have a publication place, you may opt citing it the following way: n/author, n/editor, n/location of publication.

10.       Acronyms must be spelled out in full on the first occurrence, followed by the abbreviation or initials in parentheses.

Presentación

The person in charge of the number or the editor will be in charge of pointing out the contributions of the number.
